Temporal Overlap

Temporal overlap is the coincidence of two or more time-dependent events, signals, or light pulses within a shared time window, a condition that is essential for resolving rapid chemical dynamics. In ultrafast chemistry, researchers vary the delay between pump and probe pulses until their electric fields or interactions coincide, establishing time zero through the measured cross-correlation and enabling the probe to sample evolving excited-state populations at controlled delays. Temporal overlap supports pump–probe spectroscopy, time-resolved measurements, and studies of bond breaking, energy transfer, and reaction intermediates. Accurate control of overlap improves temporal resolution and helps reveal molecular processes that occur on femtosecond to picosecond timescales.

¹H NMR: Interpreting Distorted and Overlapping Signals

2024

Spin systems where the difference in chemical shifts of the coupled nuclei is greater than ten times J are called first-order spin systems. These nuclei are weakly coupled, and their chemical shifts and coupling constant can generally be estimated from the well-separated signals in the spectrum. As Δν decreases and the signals move closer, the doublets appear increasingly distorted. The intensities of the inner lines increase at the cost of those of the outer lines as the signals are slanted or...

2015

Inter-cellular communication is critical for controlling various physiological activities within and outside the cell. This paper describes a protocol for measuring the spatio-temporal nature of single cell secretions. To achieve this, a multidisciplinary approach is used which integrates label-free nanoplasmonic sensing with live cell imaging.

The present work provides a comprehensive set of guidelines for manually tracing the medial temporal lobe (MTL) structures. This protocol can be applied to research involving structural and/or combined structural-functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) investigations of the MTL, in both healthy and clinical groups.

Overlapping Peptide Library to Map Qa-1 Epitopes in a Protein

Qa-1 (HLA-E in human) belongs to a group of non-classical major histocompatibility complex 1b molecules. Immunization with Qa-1-binding epitopes has been shown to augment tissue-specific immune regulation and ameliorate several autoimmune diseases. Herein we describe an overlapping peptide library strategy for the identification of Qa-1 epitopes in a protein.
