Hydrophilic Matrix

Hydrophilic matrix is a water-attracting polymeric material that absorbs aqueous fluids, swells, and forms a hydrated structure; in clinical pharmaceutics, it commonly supports controlled drug release from oral dosage forms. When the matrix contacts gastrointestinal fluid, water penetrates the polymer, chains relax and hydrate, and a gel layer develops around the dosage form. Dissolved drug then moves through this layer by diffusion, while gradual polymer erosion can also contribute to release. By moderating release rate, hydrophilic matrices can help maintain drug exposure over time, reduce dosing frequency, and provide a versatile platform for formulation development and evaluation.

A Protocol for the Production of Gliadin-cyanoacrylate Nanoparticles for Hydrophilic Coating

2016

This article presents a protocol for the production of protein-based nanoparticles that changes the hydrophobic surface to hydrophilic. The produced nanoparticle is an assembly of gliadin-cyanoacrylate diblock copolymers. Spray coating with the produced nanoparticle changes the surface of target material to a hydrophilic surface.

We present a protocol to synthesize Janus microhydrogels composed entirely of the same base material, poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm), with a clearly compartmentalized structure base on the phase separation of a supersaturated NIPAAm monomer solution. The synthesized Janus microhydrogels show unique properties such as anisotropic thermo-responsiveness and organophilic/hydrophilic loading capability.

Cell migration is an important part of human development and life. In order to understand the mechanisms that can alter cell migration, we present a planar gradient diffusion system to investigate chemotaxis in a 3D collagen matrix, which allows one to overcome modern diffusion chamber limitations of existing assays.
