Wheelchair Fit Evaluation

Wheelchair fit evaluation is a clinical assessment that determines whether a wheelchair’s dimensions, supports, and configuration match an individual’s body, mobility needs, and daily activities. Clinicians measure posture, hip width, seat depth, lower-leg length, and trunk or pelvic alignment, then assess pressure distribution, stability, propulsion, and functional reach while the person uses the chair. The evaluation guides adjustments to the seat, back support, cushions, footrests, and armrests to improve comfort, positioning, safety, and independence. In rehabilitation and assistive technology practice, accurate fitting can support efficient mobility, reduce the risk of pain and skin injury, and accommodate changing physical needs.

Ambulatory disabilities, or mobility impairments, represent the most common subcategory, comprising 14% of the country's populace. Different mobility-assistive devices, ranging from canes to scooters, enable increased independence and improved quality of life for those suffering from mobility...

This ensures that the patient's mobility, injury risk, and quality of life are not threatened by extended periods of sitting, potentially without proper weight shifts. Such examination needs healthcare providers that understand these...

Studying the Permeation of FITC and FITC-Ferritin through an In Vitro Blood-Brain Barrier Model

2025

This video demonstrates a method to study permeation through an in vitro blood-brain barrier (BBB) model using astrocytes and endothelial cells on a membrane insert, with free FITC and FITC-loaded ferritin. FITC-ferritin bound to receptors on endothelial cells and crossed the membrane barrier to the lower chamber while free FITC showed restricted permeation and remained in the upper chamber.

FITC-Dextran Feeding: A Method to Quantify Intestinal Permeability in C. elegans

This video introduces a method of to visualize and measure the integrity of the C. elegans intestine lumen by feeding worms FITC-labeled dextran. The example protocol shows the assay done with 3,3’-diindolylmethane (DIM)-treated and pathogen-fed worms.

In Vitro Permeation of FITC-loaded Ferritins Across a Rat Blood-brain Barrier: a Model to Study the Delivery of Nanoformulated Molecules

2016

A method to establish an in vitro model of blood-brain barrier based on a co-culture of rat brain microvascular endothelial cells and astrocytes is described and validated. This system proved to be a valid tool to study the effect of nanoformulation on the trans-barrier permeation of fluorescent molecules.
