Postoperative Recovery Assessment

Postoperative recovery assessment is the systematic evaluation of an organism’s return to health and function after surgery, helping researchers distinguish expected healing from complications. It combines repeated observations of physiological status, wound repair, behavior, and functional performance, with changes over time providing evidence of recovery or persistent impairment. In developmental biology, these assessments are especially important when surgery involves embryos, juveniles, or developing tissues, because recovery can influence growth and tissue maturation. Consistent scoring and longitudinal monitoring improve experimental interpretation, support animal welfare, and clarify how developmental stage affects healing and regenerative outcomes.
