Swing Bus

A swing bus is a designated reference node in an electrical power-system load-flow study, where voltage angle and magnitude are specified to establish the network reference and accommodate power imbalance. During iterative solution of the bus admittance equations, the swing bus supplies or absorbs the real and reactive power required to balance scheduled generation, load, and transmission losses, while its voltage remains controlled. This modeling concept enables engineers to solve interconnected power networks and assess voltage profiles, line flows, generator requirements, and system operating conditions. Accurate swing-bus selection and representation support reliable planning, stability assessment, and real-time power-system analysis.

The Swing Equation

2024

The Swing Equation is a fundamental tool in power system dynamics, especially for analyzing the behavior of generating units like three-phase synchronous generators. This equation emerges from applying Newton's second law to the rotor of a generator, encompassing factors such as inertia, angular acceleration, and the interplay between mechanical and electrical torques. In a steady-state operation, the mechanical torque (Τm) supplied to the generator is balanced by the electrical torque (Τe)...

Bus Impedance Matrix

Calculating subtransient fault currents for three-phase faults in an N-bus power system involves using the positive-sequence network. When a three-phase short circuit occurs at a specific bus, the analysis uses the superposition method to evaluate two separate circuits. In the first circuit, all machine voltage sources are short-circuited, leaving only the prefault voltage source at the fault location. The positive-sequence bus impedance matrix can be determined by solving the nodal equations,...

2025

We introduced an optimized surgical approach for small incision lenticule extraction, termed the Ye's Swing Technique. This technique enables the surgeon to perform lenticule separation and extraction more easily while minimizing the risk of incision-edge tears and lenticule fragmentation. The results of this study proved its safety and efficacy.
