Carbon Support

Carbon support is a porous, electrically conductive carbon material that holds and disperses active particles, especially catalysts, while improving their stability and accessibility. Its high surface area, tunable pore structure, and oxygen-containing surface groups promote adsorption, provide sites for chemical attachment, and facilitate electron or mass transfer during reactions. In environmental research, carbon-supported catalysts and sorbents are used to remove contaminants from water and air, transform pollutants, and support processes such as electrochemical treatment. Their performance depends on carbon source, surface chemistry, pore size, and interactions with the supported material, guiding the design of efficient and reusable technologies.

The Carbon Cycle

2019

Carbon is the basis of all organic matter on Earth, and is recycled through the ecosystem in two primary processes: one in which carbon is exchanged among living organisms, and one in which carbon is cycled over long periods of time through fossilized organic remains, weathering of rocks, and volcanic activity. Human activities, including increased agricultural practices and the burning of fossil fuels, has greatly affected the balance of the natural carbon cycle. Biological Carbon Cycle All...

Sample preparation for cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) is a significant bottleneck in the structure determination workflow of this method. Here, we provide detailed methods for using an easy-to-use, three-dimensionally printed block for the preparation of support films to stabilize samples for transmission EM studies.

We present the synthesis of an amphiphilic hexayne and its use in the preparation of carbon nanosheets at the air-water interface from a self-assembled monolayer of these reactive, carbon-rich molecular precursors.

Self-Help Support Groups

Self-help support groups are voluntary, community-based organizations that provide a platform for individuals with shared concerns to exchange support, insights, and practical strategies for coping with life challenges. Typically led by group members or paraprofessionals, these groups form a cornerstone of mental health care, especially in reaching populations that are underserved by traditional healthcare systems. Accessibility and Cost-Effectiveness One of the primary strengths of self-help...
