Fungal Viability Assessment

Fungal viability assessment is the evaluation of whether fungal cells remain alive and capable of growth, an essential measurement in infection biology and antifungal research. Methods assess indicators such as membrane integrity, metabolic activity, or reproductive capacity using viability stains, metabolic assays, microscopy, or culture-based approaches. In immunology and infection studies, these assessments help distinguish fungal killing from growth inhibition, quantify pathogen survival during host-cell interactions, and determine responses to antifungal treatments. Reliable viability measurements support comparisons among experimental conditions and improve understanding of fungal persistence, treatment efficacy, and mechanisms of host defense.
