Membrane Blebbing Release

Membrane blebbing release is a cellular process in which outward bulges of the plasma membrane pinch off to produce membrane-bound particles, influencing intercellular communication and host–pathogen interactions. It begins when localized membrane–cortex attachment weakens and actomyosin contractility raises intracellular pressure, driving the membrane outward before scission separates the bleb or released vesicle. In immunology and infection, these particles can carry lipids, proteins, nucleic acids, or microbial components that modify immune-cell activation and inflammatory signaling. Studying membrane blebbing release helps clarify pathogen dissemination, apoptotic-cell clearance, disease biomarkers, and potential targets for limiting harmful immune responses.

Cell Motility through Blebbing

2023

Blebs are a type of membrane protrusion formed by the internal hydrostatic pressure of the cytoplasm. Blebs are observed in several cell types, including fibroblasts, immune cells, and single-celled organisms like the amoeba. The primary function of blebs is cell locomotion and apoptosis, but they are also found during necrosis and cell division. The life cycle of a bleb comprises an initiation phase followed by the expansion and retraction phases. Blebbing Through the Matrix In multicellular...

Detection of Nuclear Blebbing and DNA Leakage in Mammalian Cells by Immunofluorescence

2025

Laminopathy disorders often lead to changes in the nuclear envelope, which may cause nuclear blebbing and leakage. This study presents an immunofluorescence method to visualize the nuclear lamina along with double-stranded DNA (dsDNA), providing a means to assess nuclear structure and integrity in mammalian cells.

Energy-releasing Steps of Glycolysis

2019

Glycolysis is divided into two phases based on whether energy is utilized or released. While the first phase consumes ATP, the second phase produces energy in the form of ATP and NADH. The energy is released over a sequence of reactions that turns G3P into pyruvate. The energy-releasing phase—steps 6-10 of glycolysis—occurs twice, once for each of the two 3-carbon sugars produced during steps 1-5 of the first phase. The first energy-releasing step—the 6th step of glycolysis —consists of two...
