Reagent Dispensing

Reagent dispensing is the controlled transfer of measured liquids into reaction vessels, a fundamental laboratory operation that supports accurate, reproducible experiments. It typically uses pipettes, automated liquid handlers, or dispensing systems to deliver defined volumes while maintaining calibration, sterility, and consistent mixing; careful tip handling and workflow design help prevent contamination and cross-reactivity. In immunology and infection research, precise dispensing is essential for preparing assays, diluting antibodies or antigens, distributing cell suspensions, and adding reagents to diagnostic tests, culture systems, and high-throughput screening plates. Reliable dispensing improves signal quality, comparability between samples, and confidence in results.

Peptide adsorption to plasticware during traditional tip-based serial dilutions can significantly impact potency determination and confound the understanding of structure-activity relationships used for lead identification and lead optimization phases of drug discovery. Here methods for automated acoustic non-contact serial dilution of peptide samples are described.

Source: Laboratory of Dr. Dana Lashley - College of William and Mary Demonstrated by: Timothy Beck and Lucas Arney Many reactions in organic chemistry are moisture-sensitive and must be carried out under careful exclusion of water. In these cases the reagents have a high affinity to react with water from the atmosphere and if left exposed the desired reaction will not take place or give poor yields, because the reactants are chemically altered. In order to prevent undesired reactions with H2O...

Automated Robotic Dispensing Technique for Surface Guidance and Bioprinting of Cells

This protocol describes a bioprinting methodology using an automated robotic depositing system that incorporates etched topographical guidance cues with the precision deposition of a cell bearing hydrogel bioink. The printed cells are directly delivered to the etched features and are able to sense and orientate with them.

EDTA: Auxiliary Complexing Reagents

2024

EDTA titrations are usually carried out in highly basic conditions, where the fully deprotonated form of EDTA, Y4−, actively complexes with the free metal ions in the solution. Several metal ions precipitate as hydrous oxide (hydroxides, oxides, or oxyhydroxides) under these conditions, lowering the concentration of free metal ions in the solution. For this reason, auxiliary complexing agents or ligands such as ammonia, tartrate, citrate, or triethanolamine are used in EDTA titrations to...
