Skin Swab Testing

Skin swab testing is a minimally invasive sampling method that collects microorganisms, cells, or biological material from the skin to support investigation of infection and host defense. A sterile swab is rubbed across a defined area, lesion, or wound, and the collected material is transferred to a laboratory for culture, microscopy, or molecular analysis. Results can help distinguish colonization from potential infection, identify organisms associated with skin disease, and guide further immunological or clinical evaluation. In infection research, standardized swabbing enables comparison of microbial communities and supports studies of how local immune responses influence pathogen persistence and clearance.
