Area At Risk

An area at risk is a body region or tissue identified as especially vulnerable to disease, injury, impaired blood flow, or treatment-related damage, making it important in medical assessment and planning. Clinicians define these regions by integrating anatomy, symptoms, imaging findings, and the biological processes that threaten normal structure or function. Identifying an area at risk helps guide diagnosis, monitoring, surgical approaches, radiation treatment, and preventive care while limiting harm to healthy tissue. The concept also supports risk stratification and research by linking local tissue vulnerability with clinical outcomes and treatment response.
