Extra-long Jejunal Limb

An extra-long jejunal limb is a surgically prepared segment of the jejunum that provides additional length for reconstructing or rerouting the gastrointestinal tract when a standard bowel segment cannot reach its intended connection without tension. Surgeons mobilize the jejunum and its mesentery while preserving adequate blood flow, then bring the limb to the target site and create an anastomosis with the stomach, esophagus, or another intestinal segment. The extended reach can support complex gastrointestinal reconstruction and selected diversion procedures, while maintaining intestinal continuity and peristaltic transport. Careful planning is essential to avoid excessive tension, twisting, impaired perfusion, or obstruction.

Mesenteric afferent nerves convey information from the gastrointestinal tract towards the brain regarding normal homeostasis as well as pathophysiology. Gastrointestinal afferent nerve activity can be assessed by mounting isolated intestinal segments with attached afferent nerves into an organ bath, isolating the nerve, and assessing basal as well as stimulated activity.

Here, four methods for generating testicular organoids from primary neonatal murine testicular cells are described i.e., extracellular matrix (ECM) and ECM-free 2D and 3D culture environments. These techniques have multiple research applications and are especially useful for studying testicular development and physiology in vitro.
