Ozone-mediated Denervation

Ozone-mediated denervation is a minimally invasive medical approach that uses medical ozone to reduce nerve-mediated pain by interrupting or modulating signaling from targeted peripheral nerves. When ozone contacts biological fluids, it produces reactive oxygen species that can alter local inflammatory mediators, oxidative balance, and nerve excitability; carefully delivered exposure may therefore reduce nociceptive transmission without surgical nerve removal. In medicine, this technique has been investigated for chronic musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain, including pain associated with spinal or periarticular structures. Its potential to provide targeted symptom relief while limiting tissue disruption makes it relevant to interventional pain research, although treatment protocols, effectiveness, and safety require careful clinical evaluation.

CT-guided ozone-mediated renal denervation (RDN) by injecting an O2-O3 gas mixture around lumbar ganglia reduces antihypertensive medication burden and achieves an improved home blood pressure control rate. We present a novel, simplified, unilateral, and contrast-free RDN technique that minimizes the renal artery injury in the treatment of patients with resistant hypertension (RH).

Measuring Tropospheric Ozone

Source: Laboratories of Margaret Workman and Kimberly Frye - Depaul University Ozone is a form of elemental oxygen (O3), a molecule of three oxygen atoms bonded in a structure that is highly reactive as an oxidizing agent. Ozone occurs in both the stratosphere and the troposphere levels of the atmosphere. When in the stratosphere (located approximately 10-50 km from the earth’s surface), ozone molecules form to the ozone layer and help prevent harmful UV rays from reaching Earth’s surface. In...

Testing Sensory Nerve Function in a Surgically Denervated Mouse Model
