Plasma Cytokine Levels

Plasma cytokine levels are the concentrations of soluble immune signaling proteins circulating in blood plasma, providing measurable indicators of immune activity and inflammation. Cytokines such as interleukins, interferons, and tumor necrosis factors are released by immune and other cells, then transported, regulated, and cleared from the circulation; researchers quantify them using immunoassays or multiplex protein-analysis methods. In medicine, cytokine measurements support studies of infection, autoimmune disease, cancer, tissue injury, and treatment responses. Interpreting these levels alongside symptoms, timing, and other biomarkers can clarify disease mechanisms and help evaluate inflammatory states, although individual cytokines rarely provide a complete clinical picture.

Described here is a method for producing exogenous cytokine in patient-derived xenograft (PDX) mice via weekly intraperitoneal injection of a cytokine-transduced stromal cell line. This method broadens the utility of PDX and provides the option for transient or sustained exogenous cytokine delivery in a multitude of PDX models.

Factors Affecting Renal Clearance: Drug's Physicochemical Properties and Plasma Levels

2025

Renal clearance of a drug is influenced by various factors, including its physicochemical properties and plasma levels. These factors play a significant role in determining how efficiently the kidneys eliminate a drug. One important factor is the drug's molecular size. The kidneys readily excrete smaller molecules below 300 Daltons (Da). On the other hand, molecules weighing between 300 and 500 Da are excreted through both urine and bile. Larger molecules above 500 Da tend to be excreted less...
