Roeder's Knot

Roeder’s knot is a sliding surgical knot used to ligate tissue or vessels, particularly when secure closure is needed during minimally invasive procedures. It works by forming interlocking loops around a suture strand; pulling the standing end cinches the knot, while a knot pusher can advance it along the suture to the target site. Surgeons use Roeder’s knot in laparoscopic and endoscopic techniques to approximate tissue or control bleeding without requiring direct intracorporeal knot tying. Understanding its structure, tightening behavior, and security helps clinicians select and deploy effective ligatures while supporting reliable surgical closure.

2025

Here, we introduce a novel approach-Laparoscopic Extracorporeal Knot-Tying for Uterine Vessel Occlusion during Hysterectomy with Cervical Cerclage in Large Uteri. A laparoscopic extracorporeal knot-pusher is used to perform cervical cerclage, achieving complete occlusion of uterine arteries. Thereafter, the corpus uteri are excised to enhance visibility and facilitate the operative field.

This procedure performs long-lasting in vivo intracellular recordings from single neurons during physiologically relevant cerebral states and after complete abolition of ongoing electrical activities, resulting in an isoelectric brain state. The physiological constants of the animal are carefully monitored during the transition to the artificial comatose condition.

Access for long-term infusion in the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) of rats is a surgical procedure that consists of cannulation of a proximal branch of the SMA. The cannula exits from the abdominal wound and is tunneled through the subcutaneous space back to the interscapular fold.
