Thumb-sized Craniotomy

Thumb-sized craniotomy is a minimally invasive neurosurgical technique that creates a small, roughly thumb-sized opening in the skull to reach targeted intracranial structures while limiting bone removal and tissue exposure. During the procedure, surgeons make a scalp incision, create and temporarily remove a small bone flap, and use the resulting corridor for microsurgical or other instruments; the bone is typically secured afterward. This approach can support carefully selected neurosurgical interventions, including access for diagnosis or treatment, when a focused route is appropriate. Its small access point may help limit surgical disruption and support recovery while preserving the precision required near sensitive brain structures.

Heuristics or Rules of Thumb

2026

Heuristics are cognitive shortcuts that facilitate rapid decision-making, particularly under uncertainty, time constraints, or limited information. In financial contexts, these mental shortcuts can be beneficial, but they also introduce biases that may lead to suboptimal investment choices.Investors frequently rely on heuristics to simplify complex financial decisions. However, these shortcuts can distort their perception of risk and reward, leading to systematic errors. Understanding common...

This video and protocol demonstrate how to implant a glass-covered cranial window in rodents. These preparations can be used for chronic in vivo two-photon imaging of the neocortex over time scales of months. It may also be used for other types of imaging, including optical intrinsic signal imaging.
