Optical Lens Surgery

Optical lens surgery comprises procedures that reshape, remove, or replace the eye’s crystalline lens to restore or improve visual focus, making it important for treating refractive errors and lens opacity. During surgery, the natural lens is accessed through a small ocular incision, removed or modified when necessary, and replaced with an artificial intraocular lens selected to focus incoming light onto the retina. By improving the quality of retinal input, these procedures can restore visual performance and support neuroscience research on how the retina, visual pathways, and brain interpret sensory information, while also providing clinical models for studying vision-related neural function.

Optical-resolution photoacoustic microscopy (OR-PAM) is an emerging technology capable of imaging optical absorption contrasts in vivo with cellular resolution and sensitivity. Here, we provide a visualized instruction on the experimental protocols of OR-PAM, including system configuration, system alignment, typical in vivo experimental procedures, and functional imaging schemes.
