Hi, I’m keen to From GOSO Lab in the Department of Anatomy, the University of Hong Kong. I’m going to introduce you how to use laser to create An ocular hypertension model in rec. This is a clinical use this Lamp.
Across the look, we can see the laser hat equipped on it. When we do the laser, we wear a protective Google. This is the laser machine and we use ketamine cell into enter red.
Before laser, we apply log anesthesia, and after That we apply antibiotic ointment on the eye. First we start The laser machine. The warmup will take you about 30 seconds.
The laser power we use is 1000 milliwatt and duration is 0.1. Second zero the counting, and then turn on the Sleep lamp. Before laser, we apply local anesthesia On the red eye.
Then we check the eye under the sleep lamp. We start the laser at the inferior part. You can see we are lacing the inferior tempo of the episcleral drain vein.
It lines beneath the Conjunctiva, so we focus on that. Then we’ll do the laser On the inferior limbo area. Up each laser spot.
You can see there will be a white spot on the limbo way And the blood flow is stopped there finishing the inferior part. Now we are turning to the Superior part. This is the superior tempo epigenic vein.
We can see two major branches. Focus on that and laser it. Then the common branch, check that or blocked.
And then we are going to do the third episcleral drainage vein. The superior nasal part, this vein lies beneath a thin layer of ocular muscle. So the focusing on this is much more difficult than the other two, which much deeper.
We are going to do the laser on the superior limbal area, one spot by one spot. Leave no red space between the laser spot. Check on that.
We finish all the laser on the limbo area by 270 degrees, leaving only The nasal part untouched. After laser, we applied antibiotic ointment on the eye, So totally we should 116 on this rat. Zero the counting and then turn off the laser machine and Just the lap.
I have just finished The first laser on the right eye of the rat. The same procedure will be applied on the same eye once again seven days later after two laser treatment on the wings, the intraocular pressure of the right eye will be increased above 50%than the left control eye. This elevated intraocular pressure can be sustained for at least three months.
As we know, glaucoma is one of the major cause of blindness in the world. Elevated intraocular pressure is a major risk factor. Using this laser photocoagulation method, we can create a reliable red model of ocular hypertension.
Using this model, we can further study the mechanism in glaucoma and try to find way to protect retinal gang cell from dying in Glaucoma.
