Mitofagie is het primaire mechanisme van mitochondriale kwaliteitscontrole. De evaluatie van mitofagie in vivo wordt echter belemmerd door het gebrek aan betrouwbare kwantitatieve testen. Hier wordt een protocol gepresenteerd voor de observatie van mitofagie in levende cellen met behulp van een celpermeant groen-fluorescerende mitochondriënkleurstof en een rood-fluorescerende lysosoomkleurstof.
