Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms-SNPs

פולימורפיזם נוקלאוטיד בודד או SNP הוא וריאציה של נוקלאוטיד בודד במיקום גנומי ספציפי באוכלוסייה גדולה. זהו הסוג הנפוץ ביותר של וריאציה ברצף המצוי בגנום האנושי. מוטציות נקודתיות המתרחשות ביותר מ-1% מהאוכלוסייה מתאימות כ-SNP. אלה נמצאים אחת ל-1000 נוקלאוטידים בממוצע בגנום האנושי. החלפת פורין בפורין אחר (A/G) או פירמידין בפירמידין אחר (C/T) ידועה כמעבר. לעומת זאת, החלפת פורין בפירמידין (A או G/C או T) או להיפך נקראת טרנסברסיה. ב-SNP, מעברים בולטים יותר מהטרנסברסיות.
