Chamber Training

Chamber training is a behavioral method that teaches animals to perform defined responses within a controlled enclosure, allowing researchers to measure learning under standardized conditions. The chamber presents cues such as lights or tones and records actions such as lever presses or nose pokes, while reinforcement, punishment, or shaping changes the likelihood of those responses. Researchers use chamber training to study operant conditioning, stimulus control, motivation, and behavioral flexibility across repeated trials. Because the procedure controls environmental variables and produces quantifiable response data, it supports comparisons among subjects and helps evaluate learning processes, behavioral interventions, and the effects of drugs or other experimental conditions.

2026

All animal procedures described here must be conducted in accordance with institutional animal ethics guidelines and approved by IACUC. All procedures must follow the principles of the 3Rs—Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement—and must be performed by trained personnel. A Stepwise Approach to Training Proper training and competency in animal procedures are essential to ensure high standards of animal welfare and reliable scientific outcomes. A structured, progressive training approach is...

Chambers of the Heart

2025

The human heart is a complex organ made up of four chambers: the right and left atria and the right and left ventricles. These internal chambers are separated by partitions known as the interatrial and interventricular septa. The exterior of the heart features a groove known as the coronary sulcus that demarcates the atria from the ventricles, while the anterior and posterior interventricular sulci distinguish between the two ventricles. Deoxygenated blood from the body is received in the right...
