Commercial Kits

Commercial kits are standardized packages of reagents, controls, and protocols designed to perform a defined laboratory assay or biochemical preparation with greater consistency and convenience. In biochemistry, these kits typically combine optimized reaction components that interact with a target molecule, enzyme, or biological sample under specified conditions such as controlled pH, temperature, and incubation time. Researchers use them for protein quantification, nucleic acid purification, enzyme activity measurements, and metabolite detection, often with spectrophotometric, fluorometric, or electrophoretic readouts. By reducing reagent preparation and procedural variation, commercial kits support reproducible experiments, routine analysis, and efficient method development while requiring users to assess detection limits, compatibility, and appropriate controls.

2017

DNA-protein interactions are essential for multiple biological processes. During the evaluation of cellular functions, the analysis of DNA-protein interactions is indispensable for understanding gene regulation. Chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) is a powerful tool to analyze such interactions in vivo.

Here we demonstrate the newly developed I•Cryo kit for mouse sperm cryopreservation. Two-cell stage embryo development with frozen-thawed sperm was improved consistently in 5 mouse strains with the use of this kit. Over a 1.5 year period, 49 genetically modified mouse lines were archived by sperm cryopreservation with the I•Cryo kit and later successfully recovered by IVF.

The Protease Fluorescent Detection Kit is designed for the measurement of protease activity using fluorometry. It is also suitable for detection of trace amounts of protease contamination. The method is based on the proteolytic hydroysis of a proprietary formulation of a FITC-labeled casein substrate.

Pouring and Running a Protein Gel by reusing Commercial Cassettes

Our protocol demonstrates how to pour multiple protein gels at a time by recycling Invitrogen Nupage Novex minigel cassettes, and inexpensive materials purchased at a home improvement store. This economical and streamlined method includes a way to store the gels at 4°C for a few weeks. By re-using the plastic gel cassettes from commercially available gels, labs that run frequent protein gels can save significant costs and help the environment.
