Microinjection Skills

Microinjection skills are the techniques used to deliver minute volumes of material directly into cells, embryos, or other microscopic targets, making them valuable for precise manipulation in bioengineering. Under microscopic guidance, a fine glass needle penetrates the target while controlled pressure and micromanipulator movements release substances such as DNA, RNA, proteins, or cellular components without causing excessive damage. These skills support transgenesis, gene-editing workflows, embryo manipulation, and the study of cell function. Reliable microinjection improves experimental consistency and enables researchers to control biological systems at the single-cell level, advancing regenerative medicine, developmental studies, and engineered cell models.

Zebrafish Microinjection Techniques

2023

One of the major advantages to working with zebrafish (Danio rerio) is that their genetics can be easily manipulated by microinjection of early stage embryos. Using this technique, solutions containing genetic material or knockdown constructs are delivered into the blastomeres: the embryonic cells sitting atop the yolk of the newly fertilized egg. Delivery into the cytoplasm is achieved either through direct injection into the blastomere, or via natural cytoplasmic movements that occur after a...

Two-Dimensional Graphs Some chemistry experiments take the form of directly changing one property of the system that you are studying otherwise known as the independent variable, like temperature, and measuring the effects on another property, otherwise known as the dependent variable, like volume. Once the data have been collected, the interaction between the two parameters must be quantified — or converted into a form that can be evaluated — and compared to other relationships.

Using Virtual Reality to Transfer Motor Skill Knowledge from One Hand to Another

We describe a novel virtual-reality based setup which exploits voluntary control of one hand to improve motor-skill performance in the other (non-trained) hand. This is achieved by providing real-time movement-based sensory feedback as if the non-trained hand is moving. This new approach may be used to enhance rehabilitation of patients with unilateral hemiparesis.
