Inhibitory Rna

Inhibitory RNA refers to RNA molecules that reduce gene expression by controlling the production of specific proteins, making it an important mechanism of biological regulation. Through complementary base pairing, molecules such as microRNAs, small interfering RNAs, and antisense RNAs recognize target messenger RNA and either recruit protein complexes that degrade it or block its translation. In biology, these pathways help regulate development, cellular responses, and genome function, while experimental inhibitory RNAs support gene-function studies, disease modeling, and therapeutic research. Their sequence-specific activity also provides a foundation for investigating how altered gene expression contributes to disease.

2011

This paper introduces an approach of combining laser scanning photostimulation with whole cell recordings in transgenic mice expressing GFP in limited inhibitory neuron populations. The technique allows for extensive mapping and quantitative analysis of local synaptic circuits of specific inhibitory cortical neurons.

RNA Catalyst as a Reporter for Screening Drugs against RNA Editing in Trypanosomes

2014

A highly sensitive ribozyme-based assay, applicable to high-throughput screening of chemicals targeting the unique process of RNA editing in trypanosomatid pathogens, is described in this paper. Inhibitors can be used as tools for hypothesis-driven analysis of the RNA editing process and ultimately as therapeutics.

A Microtiter Plate Method to Assess the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration of an Antibiotic

2025

This video demonstrates a microtiter plate-based method for determining the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of test antibiotics against bacteria. Upon adding a suspension of the bacterial pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa to a microtiter plate containing serial dilutions of a test antibiotic, and an inhibitor of the production of pyomelanin by the bacteria, the optical density of the wells is measured to compute the minimum inhibitory concentration of the antibiotic, and the impact of the...

Determining the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration of Enrofloxacin Against Avian Pathogenic E. coli

Begin with a suspension of avian pathogenic E. coli or APEC in growth media.APEC is a Gram-negative bacterium that infects poultry by entering through the respiratory tract. After breaching the mucosal layer, APEC adhere to epithelial cells, multiply locally, and disrupt the epithelial barrier to enter the bloodstream. The bacteria then spread to multiple organs, causing systemic infection.Add an equal volume of the bacterial suspension to each well of a multi-well plate containing increasing...

Investigating Auditory Neuronal Responses in an Awake Mouse in the Presence of an Inhibitory Neurotransmitter Blocker

2025

This video demonstrates the study of neuronal activity in a specific region of the mouse brain that processes auditory stimuli. The technique involves applying an inhibitory neurotransmission blocker and comparing neuronal responses to auditory stimuli before and after the drug is applied to the localized brain region.
