Internal Organs Imaging

Internal organs imaging comprises techniques that create visual representations of structures and functions inside the body, supporting diagnosis, research, and monitoring without direct access to tissues. These methods detect physical or chemical signals, such as X-ray attenuation, magnetic resonance responses, ultrasound echoes, or radiation from administered radiotracers; contrast agents can enhance differences in tissue composition, perfusion, or molecular activity. In chemistry, imaging connects molecular structure and reactivity with biological behavior through the design, distribution, and transformation of imaging agents. Applications include examining organ anatomy, tracking disease progression, evaluating treatment responses, and developing targeted probes for functional and molecular imaging.

Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy is a powerful approach to observe structures close to the cell surface at high contrast and temporal resolution. We demonstrate how TIRF can be employed to study protein dynamics at the cortex of cell wall-enclosed bacterial and fungal cells.
