Free-floating 3d Products

Free-floating 3D products are biological constructs, such as cellular aggregates, spheroids, or organoids, that develop in suspension rather than attached to a solid culture surface. In developmental biology, cells grown under nonadherent conditions can interact in all directions, allowing cell-cell adhesion, proliferation, differentiation, and self-organization to generate tissue-like structures. These models provide a controlled way to study embryonic patterning, morphogenesis, and lineage development while preserving aspects of three-dimensional architecture. They also support research on disease mechanisms, tissue engineering, and regenerative strategies, offering an experimentally accessible bridge between simplified cell cultures and complex developing tissues.

Stability of Floating Vessels

2023

Source: Alexander S Rattner and Kevin Rao Li Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering, The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA The objective of this experiment is to demonstrate the phenomenon of stability of floating vessels - the ability to self-right when rolled over to the side by some external force. Careful design of hull shapes and internal mass distribution enables seagoing vessels to be stable with low drafts (submerged depth of hull), improving vessel...

2025

This video demonstrates a technique for preparing free-floating slice cultures from the adult human brain. Thin slices are generated from a brain section using a vibratome. These slices are then suspended in a culture medium supplemented with growth factors to maintain tissue viability.

Buoyancy and Stability for Submerged and Floating Bodies

2025

In fluid mechanics, buoyancy and stability are key concepts for understanding the behavior of submerged and floating bodies. When a stationary body is fully or partially submerged in a fluid, the fluid exerts a force on the body known as the buoyant force. This force acts vertically upward through a point called the center of buoyancy, which is the center of the displaced fluid volume. According to Archimedes' principle, the magnitude of the buoyant force is equal to the weight of the fluid...
