Gold Film Transfer

Gold film transfer is an engineering technique for relocating a thin layer of gold from a temporary carrier to another surface while preserving its continuity, thickness, and functional properties. The process typically involves depositing or preparing the gold film on a donor substrate, supporting it during release, and positioning it on a target substrate through controlled adhesion, alignment, and drying or bonding steps. This approach enables gold coatings to be integrated with materials that cannot withstand direct deposition conditions. Applications include flexible electronics, microfabrication, optical devices, sensors, and surface engineering, where gold provides electrical conductivity, chemical stability, and useful optical behavior.

Here, we present a protocol for the in situ synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) within the interlayer space of layered titanate films without the aggregation of AuNPs. No spectral change was observed even after 4 months. The synthesized material has expected applications in catalysis, photo-catalysis, and the development of cost-effective plasmonic devices.

Sparks, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, The University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT Electroplating is a process that uses electric current to reduce dissolved metal cations so that they form a thin coating on an electrode. Other thin film deposition techniques include chemical vapor deposition (CVD), spin coating, dip coating, and sputter deposition among others. CVD uses a gas-phase precursor of the element to be...

We present a procedure for highly controlled and wrinkle-free transfer of block copolymer thin films onto porous support substrates using a 3D-printed drain chamber. The drain chamber design is of general relevance to all procedures involving transfer of macromolecular films onto porous substrates, which is normally done by hand in an irreproducible fashion.
