Lithium Metal Electrodes

Lithium metal electrodes are electrochemical components that use elemental lithium to store and release energy through reversible lithium oxidation and reduction, making them important in advanced battery engineering. During discharge, lithium atoms lose electrons at the anode and release lithium ions into the electrolyte; during charging, ions return and deposit as metallic lithium, a process that can produce uneven growth and dendrites. Researchers study electrode surfaces, electrolytes, separators, and operating conditions to improve cycling stability, safety, and efficiency. These electrodes offer exceptionally high theoretical capacity and support next-generation rechargeable batteries for electric vehicles, portable electronics, and grid storage.
