Phase Angle Determination

Phase angle determination is the measurement of the angular difference between periodic signals or between voltage and current in an alternating-current system, providing insight into timing, power transfer, and system behavior. It commonly derives phase from the time displacement between waveforms, using the relationship φ = 360°Δt/T, or from the real and imaginary components of a complex impedance through the arctangent function. Engineers apply this method with oscilloscopes, phase meters, or frequency-response measurements to evaluate power factor, circuit resonance, filter performance, and stability in electrical, control, and signal-processing systems.

2013

The determination of the gas-phase acidities of cysteine-containing oligopeptides is described. The experiments are performed using a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer. The relative acidities of the peptides are measured using collision-induced dissociation experiments, and the quantitative acidities are determined using the extended Cooks kinetic method.

Contact Angle

2023

When a solid is dipped inside a liquid, the liquid surface becomes curved near the contact. For some solid–liquid interfaces, the liquid is pulled up along the solid, while for others, the liquid surface is convex or depressed near the solid surface. This phenomenon can be explained using the concept of cohesive and adhesive forces. The adhesive force is the molecular force between molecules of different materials, that is, between the molecules of the solid and the liquid. The cohesive force...

Phase Diagrams

2020

A phase diagram combines plots of pressure versus temperature for the liquid-gas, solid-liquid, and solid-gas phase-transition equilibria of a substance. These diagrams indicate the physical states that exist under specific conditions of pressure and temperature and also provide the pressure dependence of the phase-transition temperatures (melting points, sublimation points, boiling points). Regions or areas labeled solid, liquid, and gas represent single phases, while lines or curves represent...
