Plaster Of Paris

Plaster of Paris is a powdered form of calcium sulfate hemihydrate that forms a hard gypsum material when mixed with water, making it useful for shaping and casting. During setting, the hemihydrate dissolves and rehydrates to calcium sulfate dihydrate, while crystallizing gypsum interlocks into a rigid mass and releases heat. In engineering, this material supports mold making, prototype development, surface pattern reproduction, and the fabrication of architectural or educational models. Its low cost, ease of mixing, and ability to capture fine details make it valuable for temporary forms and casting processes, although its brittleness and moisture sensitivity limit use in load-bearing structures.

MyoD is a myogenic transcription factor with a strong capacity to induce myogenic transdifferentiation of many fully differentiated non-muscle cell lines. The epigenetic mechanisms involved in this transdifferentiation are largely unknown. Here we describe a double-affinity purification method followed by mass spectrometry to exhaustively characterize MyoD partners.

Three-dimensional (3D) cellular systems are relevant models for investigating organogenesis. A hydrogel-based method for biliary cysts production and their characterization is proposed. This protocol unravels the barriers of 3D characterization, with a straightforward and reliable method to assess cyst formation efficiency, sizes, and to test their functionality.
