Syringe Fluid Introduction

Syringe fluid introduction is the controlled delivery of a liquid into a device, container, or experimental system using a syringe, making it useful for precise fluid handling in engineering. As the plunger moves, it displaces a measured volume through a needle or tubing, while plunger speed, fluid viscosity, outlet resistance, and pressure influence the resulting flow rate. Engineers use this method to add reagents, inject test fluids, calibrate flow systems, and study transport through channels or porous materials. Careful control of volume and delivery conditions improves repeatability and supports reliable testing of fluidic components and processes.

(2022)This video demonstrates a syringe-based pressure method for extracting apoplastic bacteria, which proliferate and form microcolonies within the apoplast, the intercellular space between plant cells. The method yields debris-free bacterial samples suitable for downstream single-cell analysis.

Source: Alexander S Rattner and Christopher J Greer; Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering, The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA This experiment demonstrates the principles of vapor compression refrigeration. The vapor compression cycle is the dominant refrigeration technology, found in most refrigerators, freezers, air-conditioning systems, and heat pumps. In this cycle, cooling (heat acquisition) is achieved with low-pressure evaporation of refrigerant. Thermal...

An Introduction to Organogenesis

2023

Organogenesis is the process by which organs arise from one of three germ layers during the later stages of embryonic development. Researchers studying organogenesis want to better understand the genetic programs, cell-cell interactions, and mechanical forces involved in this process. Ultimately, scientists hope to use this knowledge to create therapies and artificial organs that will help treat human diseases. This video offers a comprehensive overview of organogenesis, including historical...

2023

The spectrophotometer is a routinely used instrument in scientific research. Spectrophotometry is the quantitative measurement of how much a chemical substance absorbs light by passing a beam of light through the sample using a spectrophotometer. In this video, basic concepts in spectrophotometry, including transmittance, absorbance and the Beer-Lambert Law are reviewed in addition to the components of the spectrophotometer. These concepts provide a foundation for how to determine the...
