Flaking Grits

Flaking grits are coarse, milled grain particles prepared as the raw material for producing cereal flakes, making them important in grain processing and food manufacturing. After cleaning and size separation, the grits are conditioned with controlled moisture and passed between rollers, where compression transforms them into thin, cohesive flakes; moisture helps soften the material and reduce breakage. Flaking grits support the production of ready-to-eat cereals and other grain-based foods, while their processing also provides a basis for evaluating resource use, moisture management, by-products, and waste reduction in more sustainable food-processing systems.

2011

We present a protocol for structural and compositional analysis of natural oral biofilm from orthodontic appliances with in situ hybridization (FISH) and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM). Oral biofilm samples were collected from palatal expanders, scraping acrylic-resin flakes off their surface and referring them for molecular processing.

2023

Source: Laboratory of Alan Lester - University of Colorado Boulder The physical properties of minerals include various measurable and discernible attributes, including color, streak, magnetic properties, hardness, crystal growth form, and crystal cleavage. These properties are mineral-specific, and they are fundamentally related to a particular mineral’s chemical make-up and atomic structure. This video examines several physical properties that are useful in field and hand sample mineral...
