Multidimensional Gc

Multidimensional GC is an analytical separation technique that combines two or more gas chromatographic dimensions to resolve complex mixtures that conventional GC cannot separate effectively. In practice, components first pass through a primary column, and selected fractions or the entire effluent are transferred to a secondary column with different separation properties, increasing peak capacity and reducing co-elution. In environmental analysis, this approach helps characterize petroleum hydrocarbons, volatile organic compounds, pesticides, and other contaminants in air, water, soil, and sediment samples. Its enhanced chemical resolution supports more reliable identification, quantification, source apportionment, and pollutant monitoring in complex environmental matrices.

Gas Chromatography (GC) with Flame-Ionization Detection

2023

Source: Laboratory of Dr. B. Jill Venton - University of Virginia Gas chromatography (GC) is used to separate and detect small molecular weight compounds in the gas phase. The sample is either a gas or a liquid that is vaporized in the injection port. Typically, the compounds analyzed are less than 1,000 Da, because it is difficult to vaporize larger compounds. GC is popular for environmental monitoring and industrial applications because it is very reliable and can be run nearly continuously.

Analysis of Multidimensional Microscopy Data Using Cell-ACDC

2025

Accurate analysis of multidimensional microscopy data requires complex workflows. This article demonstrates how to use the software Cell-ACDC. It leverages state-of-the-art AI-driven models for segmentation, tracking, cell pedigree analysis, and quantification of microscopy data. Crucially, it complements these models with an innovative framework for semi-automated correction of the models' output.

Clinical Efficacy of an Innovative Multidimensional Traction Therapy in Moderate Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis

This protocol reports a randomized clinical trial that uses the major-curve Cobb angle as the primary structural outcome to evaluate the efficacy of multidimensional traction combined with bracing and mirror-corrective exercises in moderate adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.

Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (GC–MS)

2025

Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) is the combination of analytical techniques of gas chromatography and mass spectrometry in a single instrument for analyzing a mixture of compounds. The gas chromatograph separates the compounds in the mixture, and the mass spectrometer analyzes each compound separately to determine the molecular masses and molecular structures. A gas chromatograph consists of a long, narrow capillary column with a polysiloxane coating on the inner wall. The coating...

GC-based Detection of Aldononitrile Acetate Derivatized Glucosamine and Muramic Acid for Microbial Residue Determination in Soil

2012

We describe a method protocol for the GC-based analysis of the aldonitrile acetate derivatives of glucosamine and muramic acid extracted from soil. For elucidation of the chemical mechanism, we also present a strategy to confirm the structure of the derivative and the ion fragments formed upon electron ionization.
