Ct Fat Analysis

CT fat analysis is a quantitative imaging approach that uses computed tomography scans to identify and measure adipose tissue, helping clinicians assess body composition and disease risk. It works by exploiting differences in X-ray attenuation, expressed as Hounsfield units, to distinguish fat from muscle and other tissues; software can then segment regions such as visceral and subcutaneous fat. In medicine, these measurements support evaluation of obesity, metabolic health, sarcopenia, and treatment response while adding quantitative information to routine diagnostic imaging. Longitudinal analysis can track changes in adipose distribution and clarify how body composition relates to clinical outcomes.

A method of functional imaging of mouse brown adipose tissue (BAT) is described in which cold-stimulated uptake of 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) in BAT is non-invasively assessed with a standardized micro-PET/CT protocol. This method is robust and sensitive to detect differences in BAT activities in mouse models.

Source: Peiman Shahbeigi-Roodposhti and Sina Shahbazmohamadi, Biomedical Engineering Department, University of Connecticut, Storrs, Connecticut It's a little-known fact that the discovery and (inadvertent) use of X-rays garnered the first ever Nobel Prize in Physics. The famous X-ray image of Dr. Röntgen's wife's hand from 1895 that sent shock waves through the scientific community looks like most modern day 2D medical X-ray images. Though it is not the newest technology, X-ray absorption...

We describe an ovarian fad pad transplantation assay suitable for studies of normal and transformed epithelia of the female reproductive tract. The mouse fat pad allows transplantation of large tissue fragments, is easily accessible for surgery and imaging, and provides the most favorable native environment for tissues of Müllerian origin.
