Liver Mri

Liver MRI is a noninvasive imaging technique that uses magnetic fields and radiofrequency signals to produce detailed pictures of liver tissue, blood vessels, and bile ducts. During scanning, hydrogen nuclei align with the magnetic field and emit signals as they return to equilibrium; specialized sequences, including diffusion-weighted, T1- and T2-weighted imaging, convert these signals into high-contrast anatomical and functional information, sometimes enhanced with gadolinium-based contrast agents. In medicine, liver MRI helps characterize focal lesions, assess cirrhosis and fatty liver disease, evaluate iron or fibrosis, and guide cancer staging and treatment planning. Its multiplanar detail can complement ultrasound and computed tomography while avoiding ionizing radiation.

Early detection of apoptosis may identify at-risk cell populations in a variety of diseases. Here we demonstrate a method to link an early apoptosis-detection protein (Annexin V) to a MRI-detectable iron oxide nanoparticle (SPIO). This method may be extended to other proteins of interest to generate MRI-detectable molecular imaging probes.
