Quantitative Muscle Mri

Quantitative muscle MRI is an imaging approach that measures tissue properties in skeletal muscle rather than producing images for visual inspection alone, providing objective biomarkers for diagnosis and monitoring. It uses MRI signal behavior and specialized sequences to quantify features such as water content, fat fraction, relaxation times, and sometimes diffusion, which change with muscle injury, inflammation, degeneration, or treatment response. In medicine, these measurements support evaluation of neuromuscular disorders, muscular dystrophies, myositis, and other conditions affecting muscle structure and function. By detecting subtle changes across the whole muscle, quantitative muscle MRI can improve disease characterization, track progression, and help assess therapeutic outcomes.

Neuromuscular diseases often exhibit a temporally varying, spatially heterogeneous, and multi-faceted pathology. The goal of this protocol is to characterize this pathology using non-invasive magnetic resonance imaging methods.

A Dual Tracer PET-MRI Protocol for the Quantitative Measure of Regional Brain Energy Substrates Uptake in the Rat

Small-animal positron emission tomography enables the assessment of the brain's two main energy substrates: glucose and ketones. In the present method, 11C-acetoacetate and 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose are injected sequentially in each animal, and their uptake is measured quantitatively in specific brain regions determined from the magnetic resonance images.
