Transforaminal Decompression

Transforaminal decompression is a spinal surgical technique that relieves pressure on a nerve root by enlarging the neural foramen, the passage through which the nerve exits the vertebral column. Through a posterior or posterolateral approach, the surgeon removes carefully selected portions of bone, ligament, or herniated disc material that narrow the foramen, while preserving spinal stability and neural structures. The procedure is used to treat radicular pain, numbness, or weakness associated with foraminal stenosis and related degenerative conditions. By restoring space around the affected nerve, transforaminal decompression can improve symptoms and function and may provide a targeted alternative to more extensive spinal surgery.
