Ultrasonic Bath Sonicator

An ultrasonic bath sonicator is a laboratory device that uses high-frequency sound waves to agitate liquid samples, making it useful for preparing and processing materials in medicine and biomedical research. A transducer converts electrical energy into ultrasonic vibrations that travel through a water bath, producing cavitation bubbles whose formation and collapse generate localized mixing and mechanical energy. This action can help disperse particles, extract compounds, clean laboratory instruments, and facilitate sample preparation for diagnostic or analytical procedures. Because treatment conditions such as frequency, power, temperature, and exposure time affect results, controlled sonication supports reproducible workflows while reducing the need for direct mechanical contact.

Source: Laboratory of Jeff Salacup - University of Massachusetts Amherst The material comprising the living "organic" share of any ecosystem (leaves, fungi, bark, tissue; Figure 1) differs fundamentally from the material of the non-living "inorganic" share (rocks and their constituent minerals, oxygen, water, metals). Organic material contains carbon linked to a series of other carbon and hydrogen molecules (Figure 2), which distinguishes it from inorganic material. Carbon's wide valency range...

Mouse ultrasonic vocalizations are used as proxies to model the genetic bases of vocal communication deficits in mouse models for neuropsychiatric disorders. The present protocol describes three experimental contexts that reliably elicit ultrasonic vocalizations from pups (throughout development) and adult mice (same-sex interactions, male-estrus female interactions).
