Ultrasonography Assessment

Ultrasonography assessment is a noninvasive imaging process that uses high-frequency sound waves to evaluate anatomy, physiology, and abnormalities in the body, making it valuable for rapid clinical decision-making. A transducer sends sound pulses into tissue and receives returning echoes; differences in acoustic impedance determine echo patterns that computer systems convert into real-time images, while Doppler techniques estimate the movement of blood. In medicine, clinicians use ultrasonography assessment to examine organs, guide procedures, monitor pregnancy, and identify conditions such as fluid collections, obstruction, or altered blood flow. Because it avoids ionizing radiation and can be performed at the bedside, it supports repeated, accessible evaluation across diverse clinical settings.

Ultrasonography is an imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to visualize the body's internal structures. It is a non-invasive and safe procedure that does not involve the use of ionizing radiation, making it widely used in various medical fields. Ultrasonography is used to study heart function, blood flow in the neck or extremities, certain conditions such as gallbladder disease, and fetal growth and development. During an ultrasonography procedure, a handheld device called a...

Here, we present a protocol to assess frailty in the perioperative setting using point-of-care ultrasound to measure quadriceps thickness. This method offers a practical, non-invasive alternative to traditional assessment methods, potentially enhancing perioperative care by quickly identifying frail patients.

Changes in ovarian blood flow during the preovulatory period are essential for ovulation. Doppler ultrasonography has been used in humans and large animals to assess ovarian hemodynamics and perfusion. A protocol is presented for applying Doppler ultrasonography to evaluate ovarian hemodynamics during the preovulatory and periovulatory phases in mice.
