Brain Sections

Brain sections are anatomically defined regions of the brain that organize neural structures and help relate anatomy to behavior, sensation, movement, and cognition. Researchers distinguish sections such as the forebrain, midbrain, hindbrain, cerebral cortex, and subcortical regions by their position, cytoarchitecture, connectivity, and patterns of neural activity. Studying these divisions helps explain how specialized circuits coordinate information processing and how disruption in particular regions can affect nervous system function. Brain sections provide a framework for interpreting neuroimaging, histological analysis, electrophysiology, and neurological disorders, supporting research in development, behavior, disease mechanisms, and clinical neuroscience.
