Mri-guided Laser Probe

An MRI-guided laser probe is a minimally invasive device used to deliver laser energy to precisely targeted tissue while magnetic resonance imaging guides placement and monitors treatment, making it valuable for interventions in anatomically sensitive regions such as the brain. During laser interstitial thermal therapy, a stereotactically positioned fiber converts light into heat; real-time MRI thermometry maps temperature changes so clinicians can control ablation and limit injury to surrounding structures. In neuroscience, this approach supports treatment of selected brain tumors, epilepsy foci, and other lesions when conventional surgery may carry greater risk, while its imaging-based precision aids procedural planning, monitoring, and evaluation of therapeutic outcomes.

Early detection of apoptosis may identify at-risk cell populations in a variety of diseases. Here we demonstrate a method to link an early apoptosis-detection protein (Annexin V) to a MRI-detectable iron oxide nanoparticle (SPIO). This method may be extended to other proteins of interest to generate MRI-detectable molecular imaging probes.

Probe-based confocal laser endomicroscopy enables real-time microscopy of the human urinary tract during cystoscopy, providing dynamic, intravital imaging of pathological states such as bladder cancer with cellular resolution. Endomicroscopy may augment the diagnostic accuracy of standard white light endoscopy and provide intraoperative image guidance to improve surgical resection.

Positioning Laser Doppler Probe: A Technique to Implant Probe Over Middle Cerebral Artery for Blood Flow Measurement in Murine Model

This video describes the surgical procedure to immobilize the laser Doppler probe over the murine brain's middle cerebral artery, or MCA. The probe helps to measure the blood flow in the brain's microvasculature by measuring the Doppler shift caused due to the motion of red blood cells within the artery.
