Pressure Fluctuations

Pressure fluctuations are time- or space-dependent variations in pressure around an average value, and they provide important information about how fluids, gases, and waves behave. They arise when particles transfer momentum unevenly, as in sound waves, turbulent flow, oscillating surfaces, or changing fluid conditions; sensors can record these variations as changes in force per unit area. In physics, analyzing pressure fluctuations helps characterize acoustic waves, flow stability, turbulence, and energy transport. Measurements are used in fields such as aerospace engineering, atmospheric science, biomedical instrumentation, and industrial process control to detect vibrations, monitor system performance, and identify developing instabilities.

Seasonal Fluctuations

2026

Seasonal fluctuations refer to regular and predictable changes in economic activity that happen at specific times each year. These variations arise from recurring influences such as weather conditions, holidays, and institutional schedules. Unlike business cycles, which are irregular, seasonal fluctuations are predictable and happen every year.Weather patterns can affect the economy. Certain industries, such as agriculture and construction, tend to experience higher or lower activity during...

Fluorescence Fluctuation Spectroscopy to Study Protein Homo-Oligomerization

2025

This video demonstrates the technique of fluorescence fluctuation spectroscopy (FFS) to study protein homo-oligomerization. Fluorescently-labeled proteins in a sample are dimerized using an agent when studying protein oligomerization using FFS. Using a confocal microscope, as the proteins move in and out of the small observation volume, the analysis of the fluctuations in the brightness of the fluorescent molecules is performed to determine the oligomeric state of the proteins.

The laser heated diamond anvil cell combined with synchrotron micro-diffraction techniques allows researchers to explore the nature and properties of new phases of matter at extreme pressure and temperature (PT) conditions. Heterogeneous samples can be characterized in situ under high pressure by 2D mapping and combined powder, single-crystal and multigrain diffraction approaches.

Fluorescence Fluctuation Spectroscopy to Study Protein Interaction at Cell Contacts

2025

This video demonstrates the use of fluorescence fluctuation spectroscopy to detect the interaction among cell surface proteins at cell-cell contacts. By expressing the transmembrane adhesion receptor of interest labeled with a fluorescent protein and mixing two different cell populations harboring two spectrally separated fluorescent labels, the trans-interaction between the receptors of two neighboring cells with different-colored fluorescence is assessed via cross-correlation in the...
