Interpersonal Violence Research

Interpersonal violence research is the systematic study of violence occurring between individuals, including its causes, patterns, consequences, and prevention, making it central to psychology and public health. Researchers examine how individual experiences, relationships, social environments, and power dynamics contribute to violent behavior and victimization, using surveys, interviews, observational studies, and behavioral or community data. Findings clarify risk and protective factors, improve trauma-informed assessment and interventions, guide prevention programs, and inform policies designed to reduce harm across contexts such as intimate relationships, families, schools, and communities.
