Sofia Lachiondo-Ortega Liver Disease CIC bioGUNE Biography Publications Institution JoVE Articles Sofia Lachiondo-OrtegaEarly Stage Researcher Sofia Lachiondo-Ortega obtained her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of the Basque Country (Spain), and studied a MRes in Drug Discovery and Development at Imperial College London (United Kingdom).During her BSc thesis, SofIa participated in the study of the role of the mitochondrial protein MCJ in the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). As a postgraduate, she focused on the development and validation of a novel chemical probe for the study of a deubiquitinating enzyme with pathological implications in liver fibrosis.Her interest in posttranslational modifications within liver disease motivated her to start her PhD at the CIC bioGUNE (Spain) in the Liver Disease Lab during 2019, enabling her order to elucidate the impact of SUMOylation in hepatocellular carcinoma.
