Temperature and Thermal Equilibrium

La temperatura è la misura del caldo o del freddo di un corpo e può essere registrata con un termometro.
Il corpo più caldo ha una temperatura più alta, mentre quello più freddo ha una temperatura più bassa.
Ad esempio, l'acqua bollente è calda in quanto ha una temperatura più alta dell'acqua fredda.
Se l'acqua calda e quella fredda vengono mescolate, il calore si trasferirà dall'acqua calda a quella fredda fino a quando la loro temperatura non diventa uguale.
Dopo aver raggiunto una temperatura uniforme, il trasferimento di calore si interrompe e si dice che l'acqua sia in equilibrio termico.
Se l'acqua riscaldata viene posta all'interno di un frigorifero, si raffredderà fino a raggiungere la temperatura del frigorifero.
Pertanto, l'equilibrio termico è la condizione in cui non vi è ulteriore trasferimento di calore tra due sistemi collegati.
Se un corpo è separato dall'altro sistema da un isolante, ritarderà il processo di equilibrio termico.
Pertanto, un pallone termico può mantenere il caffè caldo a lungo, poiché il vuoto presente tra le pareti del pallone funge da isolante e limita il trasferimento di calore.

Il calore e la temperatura sono concetti essenziali per tutti nella vita quotidiana. Lo studio del calore e della temperatura fa parte di un'area della fisica conosciuta come termodinamica. Non è sempre semplice distinguere il calore e la temperatura.

Il concetto di temperatura si è evoluto dalla comune concezione di caldo e freddo. La definizione scientifica di temperatura spiega più del solo senso di caldo e freddo. La temperatura è operativamente definita come la grandezza misurata con un termometro. Inoltre, la temperatura è proporzionale all'energia cinetica transazionale media, che fornisce una definizione più fisica. Le differenze di temperatura mantengono il trasferimento di calore in tutto l'universo. Il calore trasferito è il movimento di energia da un posto o da un materiale ad un altro come risultato di una differenza di temperatura. Il trasferimento di calore può cambiare la temperatura, e influenzerà tutto partendo dal comportamento di atomi e molecole, alla cottura, al meteo sulla Terra, e al ciclo di vita delle stelle. Si può sentire il calore entrare nel corpo da parte del Sole estivo o dal caffè o tè caldo dopo una passeggiata invernale. Si può anche sentire il calore che lascia il corpo dal fresco della notte o dal sudore che si raffredda dopo aver fatto ginnastica.

Heat and temperature are key ideas in thermodynamics and in everyday life. People often connect temperature with hot and cold, but science gives it a more precise meaning. Temperature is the quantity measured with a thermometer. It is also linked to the average translational kinetic energy of particles.

Heat is different from temperature. Heat is energy that moves from one place or material to another because there is a difference in temperature. That difference in temperature keeps heat flowing throughout the universe. When heat is transferred, it can change temperature and affect matter in many settings.

These ideas help explain the behavior of atoms and molecules. They also appear in cooking, in Earth’s weather, and in the life cycles of stars. People can feel heat entering the body from the summer Sun or from hot coffee or tea after a winter stroll. People can also feel heat leaving the body from the chill of the night or from the cooling effect of sweat after exercise.
