Real-time Mri

Real-time MRI is an imaging approach that captures and displays anatomical or physiological motion as it occurs, extending conventional magnetic resonance imaging beyond static snapshots. It uses rapidly repeated radiofrequency excitations, magnetic-field gradients, and accelerated image acquisition and reconstruction to produce successive images with minimal delay, while signal arises from the behavior of nuclear spins in a magnetic field. In biochemistry and related biomedical research, real-time MRI can monitor dynamic changes in tissues, fluid movement, and organ function without requiring repeated breath-holds or fixed time points. These observations help connect molecular and biochemical processes with whole-body physiology and support more responsive experimental and clinical assessment.

Retraining abnormal movement patterns following injury or disease is a key component of physical rehabilitation. Recent advances in technology have permitted accurate assessment of movement during a variety of tasks, with near instantaneous quantification of results. This provides new opportunities for modification of faulty movement patterns in real time.

We present a method for collecting electrocorticographic signals for research purposes from humans who are undergoing invasive epilepsy monitoring. We show how to use the BCI2000 software platform for data collection, signal processing and stimulus presentation. Specifically, we demonstrate SIGFRIED, a BCI2000-based tool for real-time functional brain mapping.

Real Time RT-PCR

2021

Real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, or Real-time RT-PCR, is an analytical tool used to determine the expression level of target genes. The method involves converting mRNA to complementary DNA with the help of an enzyme known as reverse transcriptase, followed by the PCR amplification of the cDNA. These two processes can be performed simultaneously in a single tube or separately as a two-step reaction. The real-time quantification of the number of amplified products is...
