Idl Tracking Routine

An IDL tracking routine is a computational procedure written in Interactive Data Language to identify and follow objects across sequential images or measurements. It typically detects a feature in each frame, calculates its position, and links corresponding positions over time to generate trajectories and motion parameters. In bioengineering, this approach can quantify the movement of cells, particles, interfaces, or other image-based structures under controlled experimental conditions. The resulting tracks support measurements of velocity, displacement, transport, and dynamic behavior, helping researchers analyze microscopy data, evaluate engineered systems, and connect observed motion with biological or mechanical processes.

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University In a staggeringly complex and engaging world, it is crucial to selectively process some stimuli at the expense of others. Experimental psychologists call this ability attention. Specifically, visual attention refers to the ability to selectively process aspects of a visual scene. Many paradigms used to study visual attention involve brief, punctuated, and repeated trials. However, everyday situations often place sustained demands...

We describe here a behavioral setup and data analysis method for assaying olfactory responses of up to 100 vinegar flies (Drosophila melanogaster). This system may be used with single or multiple olfactory stimuli, and adaptable for optogenetic activation or silencing of neuronal subsets.

Small-scale Propagation of Human iPSCs in Serum-free Conditions for Routine Immunocytochemical Characterization

Regular characterization of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), to ascertain maintenance of their pluripotent state, is an important step before these cells are used for other applications. Here we describe a method for the small-scale propagation of human iPSCs specifically designed to enable their easy and routine characterization via immunocytochemistry.
