Ultrasonic Bath Dispersion

Ultrasonic bath dispersion is a sample-processing technique that uses sound energy to distribute particles, cells, or other materials uniformly throughout a liquid. In a bath, high-frequency pressure waves generate cavitation bubbles whose formation and collapse produce localized fluid motion, shear, and mixing, helping break up agglomerates without requiring direct probe contact. Bioengineers use this approach to prepare nanoparticle suspensions, homogenize biomaterial formulations, and improve sample consistency for fabrication or analysis. Dispersion conditions such as frequency, power, treatment time, temperature, and liquid volume influence particle size, stability, and biological integrity, making controlled optimization essential for reproducible results.

2016

Mouse ultrasonic vocalizations are used as proxies to model the genetic bases of vocal communication deficits in mouse models for neuropsychiatric disorders. The present protocol describes three experimental contexts that reliably elicit ultrasonic vocalizations from pups (throughout development) and adult mice (same-sex interactions, male-estrus female interactions).

Distribution and Dispersion

Ecology is the study of how organisms interact with their environment and with one another. An important aspect of ecology is understanding where species are found and how individuals are distributed within those areas. The geographic range of a species refers to the total area where its members are located, while dispersion describes the pattern of spacing of individuals within that range.Geographic Range and Dispersion PatternsWithin a species’ geographic range, individuals may be distributed...

Fabrication of High Contrast Gratings for the Spectrum Splitting Dispersive Element in a Concentrated Photovoltaic System

2015

The fabrication of high contrast gratings as the parallel spectrum splitting dispersive element in a concentrated photovoltaic system is demonstrated. Fabrication processes including nanoimprint lithography, TiO2 sputtering and reactive ion etching are described. Reflectance measurement results are used to characterize the optical performance.
