Dual-purpose Cell Analyzer

A Dual-purpose Cell Analyzer is a laboratory instrument that combines cell concentration measurement with assessment of cell viability, providing a rapid snapshot of sample quality. It typically analyzes cells in a prepared suspension by detecting individual particles and distinguishing viable from nonviable cells through optical measurements, often using selective fluorescent or exclusion dyes and automated image analysis. This approach supports routine cell culture by guiding seeding densities, monitoring culture health, and evaluating responses to experimental treatments. By reducing manual counting and improving measurement consistency, dual-purpose analysis helps researchers standardize biological techniques and generate more reliable data across cell-based experiments.

E. C. Tolman emphasized the purposiveness of behavior — the idea that much of our behavior is goal-directed. For instance, employees who aim for a promotion work diligently to meet their targets. Tolman argued that when classical conditioning and operant conditioning occur, the organism acquires certain expectations. In classical conditioning, a child might fear a dog because they expect it to bite. In operant conditioning, a person might consistently work overtime because they expect a bonus...
