Mutant Mice Analysis

Mutant mice analysis is the study of mice carrying defined genetic alterations to determine how specific genes influence biological traits and disease-related phenotypes. Researchers compare mutant animals with genetically matched wild-type controls, examining changes in development, physiology, behavior, or molecular pathways caused by gene loss, gain, or altered expression. This approach connects genotype with phenotype and helps test gene function in a whole-organism context. Mutant mouse models support research in genetics, developmental biology, neuroscience, and disease biology, while also providing systems for evaluating therapeutic targets and potential treatments.

Lens development involves interactions with other tissues. Several zebrafish eye mutants are characterized by an abnormally small lens size. Here we demonstrate a lens transplantation experiment to determine whether this phenotype is due to intrinsic causes or defective interactions with tissues that surround the lens.

The plant cuticle is a waxy outer covering on plants that has a primary role in water conservation but is also an important barrier against the entry of pathogenic microorganisms. In this video, we demonstrate the analysis of plant cuticle mutants identified by forward and reverse genetics approaches.
